False advertisement? Plea to developer for true portable.

Post by Miabear » Sun Mar 06, 2016 2:46 am

Hi Kyle,
I registered just to post this.

I have had some issues

Here's a link illustrating the same thing:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 20&t=21296

I ran sumo "portable" as advertised by your site:

... but it isn't portable at all.

When SUMO (portable) is run inside Sandboxie, I can confirm the following files are written to the roaming folder.
Image

I also ran SUMO outside of Sandboxie by creating different duplicate SUMO folders (SUMO1 and SUMO2). Changing SUMO1 settings then changed SUMO2 which means it's writing settings somewhere on my system other its own folder.

With that said, please please please is therre any way to force the portable version to keep ALL SETTINGS inside of the SUMO folder? This is such a critical thing for OCDers/windows purists/portable freaks like me!

Please advise if this is possible or if I am misunderstanding something?

This has to be improved in order to be truly portable.
Planned in a short term future.

I found references on your bug tracker from years ago about this same issue. Is there an estimated timeline?

Unfortunately, I do not use non-portable software on my computer and Sandboxing is really not ideal to say the least. It messes with my browser setup
and more important there seems to be a bug or issue in SUMO that double counts the entry while it's scanning sandboxed entries!

"full" Portablality is now something requested by user with more insistance : i'll do my best to put it on top of other topcis.

Regarding ABBY duplication, would you please be so kind to open a bug report for that ?

I saw the update to the bug tracker for target release 4.4.

Just a side note, if the app was truly portable, I wouldn't have to run it in a sandbox and the duplicate issue would be a non-issue :)

I know !
Priority in the 4.3 branch wasto re-code the licence management system, because so many keygens & cracks made most of PRO users being "non-genuine" licences.

Now that the situation is recovered, we'll progressively move towards 4.4 where full-features portable (eg : with auto-update capability) and use of local files w/o registry will be one of the first features to come !

Glad to hear it.

Also, I know you prolly don't want to hear this, but i'll give you some sound development advice. Do not waste your time with trying to 'prevent' piracy. It will always occur. Focus your energy on the product and people will see the product and support you appropriately. SUMO desperately needs the following:

1. 100% portability option (no settings in registry and option to save ALL setting files in folder and not appdata)
2. Interface - complete restructuring. Having worked in software design before, SUMO badly needs many interface enhancements. See below.
3. Improvements in Scanning code. I think it takes too long to scan through a lot of apps.

Interface:
1. No 1 click operation. I want to open SUMO and have it scan all my files without user intervention. I don't want to have to wait and click OK to some window to conti
2. Cannot minimize SUMo when it's scanning. Crazy!
3. option to minimize to tray on startup
4. Always get the "Unable to load the following files" Window no matter what I do. This is very annoying!
5. Remove the top bar. It is wasting a ridiculous amount of room. You should move those items down to the bar at the bottom:

Hello,

I'm not looking for the white elephant of bulletproof anti-piracy system. However the previous "too open" design was clearly detrimental. Current design provide a sufficient protection for the time being. I'll not dig further for months i'd say.

Regarding your comments :
1 - 100% portability planned : http://www.kcsoftwares.com/bugs/view.php?id=372
2 - See below
3 - Please provide more details. Are you in normal or deep scan more ? Are you talking about "scan" or "check" operation ?

Interface
1 : already there > check SUMo's 4th setting (check updates at startup)
2 : http://www.kcsoftwares.com/bugs/view.php?id=3766 and http://www.kcsoftwares.com/bugs/view.php?id=2556
3 : Simply add "/minimize" to your shortcut and it will work
4 : Is it systematic after each scan ? More frequently ? Logged it buy more feedback needed for a fix ! http://www.kcsoftwares.com/bugs/view.php?id=1954
5 : Will be considered in overall GUI modernization
